The California Beef Noodle King is Hiring.

Posted October 27th, 2008 by TheOtherRichard

Mr Lee’s California Beef Noodle restaurants are a staple around Beijing and many Chinese cities.  Mr. Lee, a Chong Ching native according to the poster in the restaurant I was in on Sunday morning, moved to the US where he made his money in Beef Noodles, returning to take this niche in Chinese cuisine by storm.  The poster was fairly strident in its promotion of Mr. Lee’s virtues. The California Beef Noodle King is Hiring

What caught my eye, though, was the advertising on the reverse of the menu holder.  The notice, pictured, shows happy staff and is headed by the words ‘招募’ or ‘recruiting’, explaining the happy staff.  Under this is a pay scale 1200 to 2500 Chinese Yuan (175 to 360 USD) a month and a simple diagram of how one moves (linearly) from wait staff to store manager (no mention made of potential moves to corporate).

I am trying to picture such a simple and straight forward approach to recruiting in ‘the west’.  Mr. Lee’s obviously take a similar approach to recruiting staff as they do to selling beef noodles.
