Palin Stealing from the Clintons?

Posted September 19th, 2008 by Josh

Eager to see a hard-hitting interview with Sarah Palin, I decided to watch FOX News’ Sean Hannity grill her. A little way into it I heard a line that was bizarrely familiar. Talking about what critics have said about her, Governor Palin said:

The shots that perhaps our campaign is taking are nothing—it’s nothing compared to the shots that some people across America are taking.

Hmm…so familiar. So familiar. Maybe that’s because it is almost an exact line from the movie Primary Colors, the brilliant movie about Bill Clinton’s 1992 . So I went online to see if I could dig up the clip. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the line from the movie is nearly verbatim from something that Bill actually said on the trail:

The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits people that people in this state and country are taking everyday of their lives.

But that was so long ago. Surely no one except a political junkie like me when remember something like that. It’s not like Hillary used the line in February during the primary and commentators brought it up. Right? Surely at the CNN debate in February Hillary Clinton didn’t say this:

The hits that I’ve taken in this election are nothing compared to the hits people that people in this state and country are taking everyday of their lives under this administration.

Not surprisingly, Palin skipped the line “under this administration. Here are the three clips. Notice that Palin started to deliver the line, briefly got side-tracked and then returned to the script:

And the Clintons in 1992 and 2008, respectively:

Just saying.
