We Don’t Want No Stinkin’ Business
Henry Sanderson of the Associated Press is reporting that China has stopped issuing all business visas into China until September 20. Terrorism concerns related to American lawyers were the cited reason. Just kidding, they’re worried businessmen might protest. That makes sense:
The visas restrictions are part of a massive security operation to ensure a trouble-free games, in line with its desire to project an image of a modern China. Dissidents have been monitored or even arrested, and migrant workers told to go home.
Weren’t the Games supposed to be a money-making proposition? Guess not, as it’s hard to bring in currency without having people carrying that currency:
Juergen Weckherlin, a German businessman in Hong Kong, said people were losing money because they cannot make trips that require face-to-face contact. He used to go mainland China four or five times a month to visit garment factories, he said.
Well, at least those polution policies are working (for those of you not in Beijing, the air is so thick and white today it appears to be snowing).

This Games is so instrumental in telling the world what China is really like.

It’s what Beijing gets for handling its own PR. The Commies just don’t have finesse.

I guess Richard at TPD isn’t doing a good job so panda licking American China law advisors can’t get in the country to “do business”.

I work in the rep office of a US company. We have problems getting our ex-pats work permits and business visas. We may have to close the office if we cannot have ex-pats in it.

Things learned form these comments
1. Bill or possibly Nan is a lawyer, or at least Michael thinks one of them is.
2. Michael doesn’t like Bill.
3. Michael has confused me by using the language of Bill, Nan and, Josh, making it impossible to decipher whom he is talking about.
