No race for VP.
I a stunning turn of events predicted neither here, nor here, it turns out that Colin Powell - a man one might think had sunk his political career by hitching his clean and straight shooting military image to the Bush Whitehouse’s campaign to invade Iraq - is the optimal choice for Vice President - no matter on which side of the fence you land. This, at least, according to a sophisticated algorithm. I am not sure how Josh managed to miss this obvious option.

That’s because Powell would be a terrible choice for pretty much either of them. For McCain, what possible worse choice could there be then a top Bush guy? For Obama, you really think he’s picking a black guy from NY who single-handedly ensured the US went to war?

If Powell had resigned in protest a la Cyrus Vance before the Iraq disaster, he could be president today. But he missed his chance and now the best he can hope for is a cushy spot on the Council on Foreign Relations or some other gathering of gas-bags.
