Very well stated Vic. The Hash House Harriers is a world wide organization. I think law enforcement has a responsibility to know about it, and how to recognize when they have come across a hash trail. I am sorry the hashers had to go through all of that, but it makes for a GREAT story!! Hashing is a LOT of fun. Its a way to connect with fun folks from every walk of life from all over the world. It's all about building bridges one beer at a time!!

To Mick There are several hashes in New York an intelligent person would know that you wouldnt spread a toxic chemical by hand and make it lead right to you. Paul they probably wish they were in singapore because there are 10 different hashes going on in that country so they wouldnt be bothered by ignorant police. To Will They do this stunt in major cities all over the world on a monthy or weekly basis so whats your point. The terroist scare only comes up when ignorant people get paranoid are you the type of person that turns kids in for graffiti when they draw hopscotch on the sidewalk with chalk. The police just over reacted if the hahsers admitted the poweder was there doing and provided the bag of empty flour it seems common sense would have been to just tell them not to do it again and let it be.

They should just be thankful they weren't in Singapore! But I can look at this from both sides. From the Hashers point of view, it seems ludicrus that the cops would pull the whole CSI treatment on what -- as they pointed out -- was simply flour. But from the PSB point of view, they're essentially obligated to do this. Not because the Hashers were laowai, but rather that if it turned out to be something other than flour, it could have been a lot more environmentally serious. I think the last thing any country wants is a group of people dropping what could have been industrial powder or something on their roadways, where a sudden rain shower would add a potentially noxious chemical to the storm sewar system. In the end -- aside from time being lost going through the motions -- both sides in this emerged unscathed. Funny story though!

Zhang Ying Jia... your comments sucks... really how can you so ignorant? Then make a new damn wall all around china and stop "laowais" coming to China! Nobody was messing around, they were just making sports and having fun at the same time (catch the rabbit) but it seems for me my dear Chinese friend that even having FUN was prohibited for you and your friendAs... a pity...

Well it was stupid behaviour. Seems the Police handled it well. Throwing flour around in a city center is pretty dumb. Why can't the Hash go out into the countryside in the Western Hills if they want to mess about? Usual dumb drunk laowai story. Maybe Josh can understand why we think of foreigners as Barbarians and built the Great Wall.

Next time, they should have one of those street cleaner's three wheel tricycles, and have the hashers carry some of those brooms made out of straw. Then, if stopped, they can say they are part of 'One World, One Dream, Clean Beijing' and tell the PSB they are helping clean the city for the Games (Mr. Police, please don't delay us as there are only about 100 days left and so much more to sweep!). Then they can say they are cleaning up the flour left by a Frenchman (since they are the enemy of the day), and will donate all the reclaimed flour to help with the food crisis. Then, the PSB will be happy with the model expats, and even better is the fact you can carry a lot of Yanjing Draft in the back of one of those three wheelers!

I can't believe ANYONE is leaving trails of white powder around without thinking of the consequences. (Do they have a HHH in New York?). Next it will be the Saudi Amateur Pilots Association having their annual meeting at a Flying School in Florida.
