We, too live in the south, and everyone spits, constantly. They spit everywhere, outdoors, in elevators, in stores, in front of you, beside you, it really doesn't matter to them. I will say, I won't be missing this part of the Chinese culture when we leave China. Canrun, I couldn’t agree more!

It is #1 on my list of things I will not miss. I don't care if I'm called names and I don't care what the cultural relativists will whine about, but this kind of behavior is sick, disgusting and will show the show the word on 8/8/08 and the weeks that follow that this country is not a modern country at all. It is stuck in 1880s Deadwood and will continue to be there for the foreseeable future. In southern China, it's old and young...male and female. Everyone. Now, some of you will need to go wipe the gobs off your rose-colored glasses. Don't blame the messengers.
