Chinese Corruption Site Crashes; Demand Too Great

Posted December 20th, 2007 by Josh

On my way out the door I noticed this story. Apparently the Chinese government set up a corruption website, and much like their Olympic site, it crashed under the weight of the tremendous response. There has not bee too much else reported on it yet, but I’m pretty sure this will get some decent play.

[update]

The site is back up and there is a more extensive explanation on the UK’s Daily Telegraph website. Of course a corruption website is only effective if those receiving the complaints show a willingness to act on the information. In New York former State Comptroller Alan Hevesi set up a government waste hotline. His election opponent then reported him (Hevesi)  who was forced to investigate himself. In the end the information that he found forced him to resign. Let’s hope China shows the same kind of twisted integrity that required. Based on the messages the Telegraph reported appearing on the website, most people are dubious:

“So long as the system doesn’t change, any [anti-corruption] effort is bound to be quite fruitless.”

Corruption itself has nothing or very little to do with the system. As human we are sure to look out for our own interests first. Anti corruption site in every country will do certain degree of justice for the unfortunately few.
I hate ur attitude toward corruption when you try to blame everything on the system. Let’s face it we are not going to change the system anytime soon, so why not start by helping the unfortunates to fight for their rights by maximizingly utilizing the system we were under.
Stop being such a smart-ass and saying things like”bound to be quite fruitless”.
Yeah you live in ur “perfect” system and criticize the few efforts trying to bring a liitle justice to ordinary people.
